For this guide we will be covering in-depth how to do an XP to XP Data Transfer. If you feel these instructions are too hard or just want something easier then we recommend you visit ", SiteTracker::get()->GetCookie("howtotrans")); ?>http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/.  This software works great and can save you many headaches.  Alternately you can have us do the transfer for you online at Online Computer Repair

.
The computer you have your data on will be called your old XP computer and the one you want to do the data transfer to will be known as your new XP computer.  This guide is good for XP SP2 to XP SP2 Data Tranfer.

File and Settings Transfer Wizard

We will be covering a few different methods of doing a data tranfer here. If you have a network setup already then the tranfer will need no other equipment. If you do not have a network setup then you will need an external media to copy the data onto. This can be a USB hard drive, data tranfer cable, CD's\DVD's, any media really.

the first thing you need to decide on is the tranfer method. Lets say you are using an external media device. If this is the case you need to plug that device in before we go any further. Same with your cd or dvd if you go that route.

On Your OLD XP Computer you need to start the Windows Easy File Transfer Wizard.  Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > File and Settings Transfer Wizard.  Once opened hit next and then select OLD Computer. Now you get to choose were you want to store the data. You can choose an external hard drive, over the network or any removable media like a CD or DVD. Now hit next.

You will now get to choose what you want to tranfer over. Keep in mind you can not tranfer over programs. In order to do this you need software like ", SiteTracker::get()->GetCookie("howtotrans")); ?>PCMOVER. You can still tranfer over user accounts, e-mail, personal files and folders and the like. The screen option will look like this.

Data Transfer

The fun part has arrived.  You have a few different options.  You can transfer over everything transferable by keeping the default settings at “Both files and settings”.  If you choose this method then your personal Files and folders, E-mail settings, such as contacts and messages, Program settings, User accounts and settings, Internet settings and favorites, Music, pictures, and videos will be transferred over.  You should consider re-installing any software you have on your old computer to the new one first.  This way once the settings transfer is done your settings will all be there.  If you install the software programs after the Windows Transfer Wizard then some of your custom settings may not be present.  The Windows Transfer Wizard does not transfer over software programs.  The only program on the market that does this is ", SiteTracker::get()->GetCookie("howtotrans")); ?>PCMOVER.

Once you have all your data on the media device or over the network to your new XP computer you can start the tranfer wizard on the New XP computer. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > File and Settings Transfer Wizard. Click next and then select the New Computer option as below.

Hit next and choose the third option "I have already yadda yadds" as the bellow image indicates.

Now all you have to do is locate the media were the data is stored and hit next. The tranfer can take a while if you have a ton of files. the average time is not long but if you have 200 Gigs you are moving over it can take a few hours. Most people it will only take an hour or less.

We hope you liked our XP to XP data tranfer guide. It's free so I don't want to hear you complaining. If you don't like it then make your own and leave my site. Sorry a bit cranky while writing this.
